The Benefits of Nettle on Hair and Skin

If you have common skin and hair problems such as dry itchy scalp, acne, dry skin, greasy skin or dandruff, then you shouldn’t reach for your regular old shampoo and face wash, the next time you head into the bathroom—you need to be reaching for a natural nettle soap and nettle shampoo that’s free from soaping agents.  Yes, that’s right: nettle has some pretty amazing benefits for your hair and skin and can treat a host of skin conditions or common hair problems.  Let’s take a closer look at some of the best benefits of using nettle shampoo and nettle soap:

Skin Benefits

A natural soap bar made with nettle can make a world of difference to your skin. Nettle has natural astringent properties; astringents are great for treating skin issues such as greasy skin, dry, itchy and inflamed skin due to insect bites, chicken pox, and even eczema.  If you’re looking to treat these types of conditions, look for a bar of soap made with nettle extract or oil that’s free from parabens and soaping agents such as SLSa.

Nettle taken internally through tea may also help by:

Decreasing oxidative stress
Relieving pain
Fighting infections
Decreasing inflammation
Lowering blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol
Healing the stomachs lining

Though you’ll want to make sure you’re using nettle soap as well for external problems.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup nettles
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp sugar or honey (optional)
Directions:
  1. Find some nettles and cut of the leaves with as little stem as possible (the older looking nettles are sweeter). Fill up a cup full and wash them thoroughly in warm water. Put the nettles in a large saucepan with 4 cups of water and add the sugar or honey.

  2. Put the pan on the hob and bring to the boil, then simmer for 15 minutes. Taste the tea and add any more sugar if needed. Serve in mugs with a nettle for decoration.

  3. (For the iced-tea) Put the tea on the side for 30 minutes then transfer to the fridge for 2 hours. Serve with ice and a nettle for decoration.

The anti-inflammatory properties of nettle could also help you treat skin burns and even reduce the visibility of burn-related scars.

Hair Benefits

Shampoo bars made with nettle and regular nettle shampoo have many benefits for your hair and scalp. The most noticeable benefit is the reduction of a dry, itchy scalp as well as dandruff. Regularly using nettle shampoo will make you forget you ever had to worry about flakes on your favourite shirt!

But nettle isn’t just good for treating your dry scalp: it can even help with hair loss.  In fact, nettle is one of the oldest recorded remedies used for treating and preventing hair loss. This is primarily due to the high amount of sulphur and silica in nettle, which improve hair health by strengthening the hair shaft.  Regularly using nettle shampoo can promote hair re-growth and reduce hair loss.

Nettle vs. Ordinary Skin and Hair Products

There are thousands upon thousands of skin and hair care products out there on the market today, and you may be wondering: why choose nettle over the countless other items found on store shelves?  The reason is simple: nettle has been proven to benefit the health and look of your skin and hair. There is a reason why it’s been a popular remedy for thousands of years, after all!

If you’re looking to transform your skin and hair, put down the ordinary bars of soap and set aside your standard conditioner, and pick up some nettle shampoo and nettle soaps for your next spa day. Just make sure that the products you’re using contain real nettle oil or extract, which will be listed in the ingredients.  Don’t wait—start transforming your skin and hair with nettle today!

Hand Made Natural Soaps

Folk soap hand made in wales
folk soap booklet front cover

Natural hand crafted folk soap products. Extraordinary soap for extraordinary folk, skin loving, natural, artisan, therapeutic soap, packed full of  beneficial ingredients.  There is no comparison to hand made soaps to well known brands off the supermarket shelves. I could not ever go back to using mass market brands, the difference is just chalk and cheese between natural soaps and soaps filled with animal fats and soaping agents that are sometimes used as industrial cleaner.  You instantly feel the benefits of the oils and plant based ingredients in a good quality hand made soap.  You do not get the tightening sometimes felt from other soaps and within a few days your skin feels amazing, spots clear up and skin conditions calm.  I could go on but I’ll stop there, if you haven’t already you will have to try one for yourself.

If not from here then go along to your local farmers market where you can usually pick up a good quality bar quite reasonably, try and avoid bright colours and clear soaps, which are usually melt and pour soaps that are just reheated and set in a mould to look handmade, they can sometimes contain soaping agents a known skin irritant.Look for a more natural colour soap that’s earthy such as soaps with cocoa or turmeric or the greens of avocado and green clay, or small particles of ground seeds and oats etc.  Generally good quality natural soaps are not made to look pretty, they are made to be kind, gentle and to leave you feeling healthy in your skin.  Don’t be put off by colour or exfoliating oats or ground seeds, I make a banana and almond soap that is not the prettiest bar to look at but the way it makes you feel and smell is second to none.
